Microsoft Copilot Now Available for Campus

Microsoft Copilot is now accessible at no additional charge to students, faculty, and staff of the University of Texas. Utilizing the GPT-4 and DALL-E 3 models, this service offers a robust platform for enhancing productivity and creativity within the university community. Importantly, the service operates under a commercial data protection agreement with Microsoft, ensuring that all user data is encrypted, not retained, and not utilized for AI model training. It's important to note that Copilot is currently not approved for processing confidential university data.

As the university community embraces this new tool, it is crucial to distinguish between this freely available version of Copilot and the separate, paid Copilot for Microsoft 365, which is still under evaluation for security and compliance. Users can begin exploring Copilot by signing in with their UT Microsoft 365 account, with no immediate action required at this time.

For more detailed information on Microsoft Copilot and how to start using it, see ITS article in SharePoint. Questions can be directed to microsoft365@utexas.edu.
